Anyway, here’s what’s new.

HP hired me on as a fulltime employee! That’s great because I’m actually going somewhere with my career now, plus I get better insurance which the fiance is gonna like once she’s not my fiance but my wife cuz it’ll be great for her. Oh yes, and dope discounts like 30% at Tucanos, or 15% at T-Mobile, or yeah, stuff.

I’M GETTING MARRIED! 65 days… But who’s counting? I’m marrying the wonderful Natasha Crane, and am getting pretty excited.

I’ve got a Nexus One. I’ve wanted one longer than I’ve known my fiance, which is weird. Plus I got one before I married her, since we’re not married yet but will be soon.

I’m selling my EeePC 1015PN. I love it, but it’s just not as useful to me as it was. Plus I want a tablet.

Minecraft: dreadpirate15.dyndns.org

I just got Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. Gonna read it to Tasha because it’s one of my favorite books evar!

I just realized that I need to really do some organizing in my online life, particularly my domains and subscriptions and such. Gonna slowly cut down on my accounts, kill as many as possible. Just don’t need all of them dontcha know.

Did I mention I love legal pads?

Oh yes, and I get Wednesdays off work. Pretty sweet.

Well, enough of this. Bedtime, then maybe tomorrow I’ll put an hour or two into my writing. Possibly a well thought out blog post on proper dress for christians?

For Sale: Nook Color by B&N - $150

The time has come to part with my Nook Color… Because I’m buying a Nook Tablet!

Don’t worry about condition; I take great care of my gadgets! My fiance bought it from B&N via their eBay store, but thankfully is quite glad to let me sell it so I can upgrade. Even though she doesn’t understand my gadget-y ways. =]

Pictures after the jump!

Ok, here’s a rundown on the specs: SPECS!

So I’m lazy. What of it?

Here’s what you’ll get:

On top of the sweet device, I decided it would be much cooler with full android. So I installed CyanogenMod7. What does this mean for you? Just that you can install any app from the Google Market, play more games, read books from Kindle/Nook/any other ereader you want.

Here’s the Swappa link! I love Swappa!

Here’s the eBay link! eBay link!

Did I mention Netflix?

And Google Music/Amazon MP3/Pandora

Plus Web Browsing.

Facebook.

Twitter.

Chat.

Texting.

Headphones.

Original box even!

Etc.

Why does man crave great things? I do not refer to large houses, expensive art, or nice cars. I refer to the great things of the natural world. The Ocean. The Mountains. Things that show man how truly small he is. How little he can really affect his world. Yes, there are some who attempt to tame the ocean, to conquer the mountains. But do they succeed? No.The ocean is still there, powerful and stronger than anything we could invent. The mountains still stand tall, unshakeable, surrounding us with their majesty. Though man can scale these giants, can we change anything about them? No, we can’t. They are greater than we are.

How does man respond to their relative tininess? Some men seek out ways to gain power, to make themselves seem more important. But at the end of their life, what have they gained? Nothing. All the power and importance they gained during their visit here on earth is left at the door. They will be judged according to the most important choice in this life. Whether they chose God, or self.

Yet, there are others, men who realize that they don’t need to feel important. God created each and every one of us. In His arms, man doesn’t need to be great, because we are His children. That is all that matters.

To me, the ocean is not a beast to be tamed. The mountains are not enemies to be conquered. Instead, they are pictures of the greatness, the splendor, the majesty, and the immeasurable Love of my Lord. He is our Creator. He is all powerful, without Him there is nothing. When I see the ocean, I see the indefinable depth of God’s Love for me. When I see the mountain ranges, I see God’s arms surrounding me, protecting me.

Isn’t it better to rely on God’s strength, and trust Him? He gave His precious Son to die for us, so that we might live, if we only trust in, and rely on, His Love. He will not fail us, why should we fail Him? Don’t rely on your own strength. In the end, nothing you can do will save you. Allow God to guide you along your path. You won’t be disappointed.

Information Age: Is Google the one to yell at?

Been reading up a little bit on Google’s new TOS. And I don’t get what the big deal is.

As I understand it, Google is simply stating that they are using the data that they have on you in one service to pad what they have about you in another. Now, maybe I’m a little naive, but I assumed that’s what they had been doing ever since got my first gMail address back in 2005. More after the jump!

I for one use several of Google’s services, and appreciate integration between them. I’m also a little bit scared about how much information Google has about me, but until they start selling my information to the Government, I’m ok with the level of information they have. I came to grips with the idea that anything I put online is not my own information anymore, it becomes the property of the “INTERNET”.

Obviously I still hold copywright on content I created, but as far as my data being my own, nope. Guys, this is the internet. If you have information online, anyone can (theoretically) access it. That’s a scary, but important fact. If you need to keep your identity secret, then by all means necessary keep it secret. You probably shouldn’t be using Google+ in that case.

Now Google here provides a lot of services. Many are excellent, others are “Yeah, we do that too” products. One thing I have always appreciated is the ability to log into one, and so log into them all! For instance, I get a brand new Android phone (Yeah I know Tasha. 2 more weeks til I break down and buy a myTouch 4g) and all I need to do is sign into my Google account. All of my contacts, mail, docs, etc are synced to the new device, provided the contacts, gmail, docs, etc apps are installed.

That sounds like the future everyone has been waiting for right? Where all our data is right at hand? One word of warning: this may be the future we’ve dreamed of, but remember this: 1984. A Brave New World. Fahrenheit 451.

People, this is the information age. We’ve lost so much in privacy and freedom, in fact we have willingly given it away for the convenience of watching YouTube videos of ticklish kittens on our phones. The flipside is this: All information can be available to others.

So what’s the point of this blog? Really, to ask people to have a bit of sense. Don’t get angry at Google for accepting your data. Don’t get mad at Facebook for accepting your data. Get mad at yourself for willingly giving it to them.

Or don’t. Just keep your private data off the internet.

So, y’all know I work prep/expo/cook/bussing at Fuddruckers in Idaho right? Yup. Been getting about 40 hours a week, which is quite pleasant, as the weather is brightening up and I only work two evenings.

So it’s annoying that I now have an issue.

See, I don’t wanna be stuck in a restaurant job forever(well, unless I’m RUNNING one I OWN), so I’ve been looking for more work. Note “more”, it comes in later.

I applied for an entry level IT position with World IT Solutions, partnered with HP. The Navy and Marine Corps outsource their IT support to this partnership, and they like to rotate grunts through the junior level positions yearly. So I most likely have a job, provided all goes as my contact assumes it will(I’m told I just have to wait on the paperwork actually going through, but I most likely have the job in hand). I’m on pins and needles waiting for this to come through!

When I get this job, training starts on April 18th. Soon! The job description warns me that I could have any shift during their 24/7 operating hours, and I’d be working up to 20% overtime. That’s roughly 48 hours a week! Could be a graveyard shift, could be midday. Won’t know for sure til… April 18th.

Anyhow, recall that “more” I dropped a little bit ago? Well, it comes in here. I plan to continue working at Fudds! Of course, I will need to drop my hours a bit, but I don’t mind going down to 20ish. It’s nice my boss really likes my work!

So that adds up to 68ish, or to round it to a nice sounding number, 70 hours a week. All summer.

This begs another question: How on earth am I going to hold two jobs, work on finishing the last little bit of my degree, AND spend time with my girlfriend???

Well.

:’(

She’s gonna go home to her parents this summer, and spend some time there while waiting for me to get myself together. It’s gonna suck(especially since they have slow internet and barely any phone coverage), but I think it’s for the best. *crossed fingers* I can bring her back to Idaho soon!

So what’s new in YOUR life?

Izzy

This was so sweet! For a couple who enjoy this fun game together, I can’t imagine anything better… Well, except maybe a whole lotta cardboard boxes glued together to build a “RealWorld Minecraft World”… Hmmmm…. ;)

Just a couple things. Or a few. What's the difference anyway? Two or three... Or four, or more!

So I realized a few things tonight. First, I really do not like almonds in my chocolate bars. Second, I absolutely LOVE english toffee in my chocolate bars. Third, no Symphony bars I have ever found have only english toffee. So I must suffer through the almonds. :(

Ok, on to the real point(or two) of this post. =]

I was writing an email to a dear friend of mine, and I mentioned a few struggles I’ve been having. As I wrote the email, I realized two very important things. First, it’s best not to leave your chapstick too close to a lit candle, and second, that God is NOT strongest when we are weak. I seem to hear that a lot, that God is content to watch us up until a certain point, at which time He jumps in and picks us up. Sorry to break the news to you, but He doesn’t do that. Instead, He walks beside us, daily offering all of His Perfect Love and Might to us. But when we think we’re doing ok, we like to push Him away. It’s when we are weak that we finally allow our barriers to fall down, and accept His help. Isn’t that kinda backwards? Why do we wait until we have nothing left to ask for His help? Maybe we should be on our knees daily thanking Him, and accepting His gifts.

Then another thought came to me. So often people complain about growing up(or maybe it’s just me. I do it. A lot). But think about it. There are what, 7 billion people on this planet right now? And there have been a lot before… You know, 5-7 thousand years we’ve been around, and so far, people have kept on growing up and becoming men and women. What different for us? Oh right. No one is standing there saying “Buck up and be a man.” That applies to you girls too. I’m pretty sure.

You see, back before we had political correctness, and hundreds of self help books lining bookstore shelves, people weren’t afraid to actually talk sense to kids. You could tell a kid “Suck it up” when they were whining, and didn’t get criticism from the woman the next aisle over(this actually happened). You could raise your kids to be responsible and not expect everything to be given to them, and not be afraid of people telling you how badly you were sacking their childhood. In short, you could raise men and women, not boys and girl. Why can’t we do that now? Here’s a hint: Start telling yourself to buck up and deal with it.

Izzy

Love... It's not an option folks.

Love… It’s not an option. Nor is it a feeling. So often people see love as just that; a feeling that comes and goes, when in reality it’s a decision. When I say I love someone, it’s because I’ve made the *decision* to love them, regardless of their behavior or decisions, right or wrong. But, what about those others, those I haven’t decided to love? Are they any less deserving than those close to me? No. Everyone deserves to be treated the same way I treat my family, the same way I treat my friends, the same way I treat my coworkers, the same way I treat my customers. Respect, Love, Kindness. There is no other option.

Izzy

Captain's log. January 5, 2010, In The Year Of Our Lord.

I closely examined the fluid reservoir in my clutch master cylinder. It appears fully full. In other words, I can find no leaks.

Also, I am newly assigned to daily prep. This came as a shock to the old prep cook. Nor the most pleasant start to the AM.

I finished The Lost Hero. Impatient for sequel.

I find television shows annoying and wasteful of time I could better spend A) Eating, B) Sleeping, or C) Working.

In other news, I discovered that it is supremely disconcerting, not to mention aggravating for your most powerful device to be a first Gen iPod Touch. The iMac G3 is beautiful, but I require a bit more… Even a simple netbook would suffice. Two weeks… :-)

I desperately want a nook. I would adore to keep a lot of books on it and read them in between my numerous split shifts. Sigh… Birthday gift anyone?

Now, I fear I must away. Sleep is calling… And it’s voice is quite compelling. Not to mention sweet, inticing, beautiful, and sleepy.

Farewell!

The day when citizens across the great United States of America pause and remember those who served their country. Those who have given their lives to ensure freedom and hope for this fair country. Those who continue to protect us from threats, both within our Nation, and without. God bless our protectors, God bless our Armed Forces, and God Bless the USA!

In response to some friends loss of confidence in voting & Democracy

True, God did not set up democracy as His ideal of governance of the people. He selected leaders to carry His people through. They were to ultimately rely in GOD for their leadership, not on man.

Sadly, we live in a fallen world. A theocracy is essentially impossible with the state of man in these days. If we tried that, it would simply degrade into anarchy.

Democracy is quite simply the best(or should I say, least worst?) government system in the world. There is no other like ours in the world. I would agree that the system is not perfect, but it’s as close as we are likely to get.

I have worked at the polls, and can tell you firsthand that there are very strict rules about how it should be done, and counting fraud is (usually) impossible. Most of the counting is done by computers, with only bad(wrinkled, folded, un-readable by the computer) ballots being counted by hand.

When it comes to majority rule, thats simply the best system we can come up with. Being ruled by minority(oligarchy) would be worse, don’t you think? Instead, we find what MORE people find best, and follow that. Sure, it’s not *great*, but at least it brings interesting debates to the forefront.

To sum up, I believe it is every citizens right and *duty* to vote. Regardless of one’s opinion of “The System”, it is still necessary to reach politicians with your vote. For some, it becomes one of the only ways to get through to them(though I’m lucky to have conservative legislators, senators, and representatives who actually listen to those they represent).

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

The only thing necessary for America to fall is the failure of good people to vote.

Some go on the principle of getting as little as possible out of God’s word. Such a plan may be wise with a man’s word, but God’s word is to be understood at the maximum, for he will do exceedingly abundantly above what you ask or even think.”

-
Spurgeon

Or, the dangers of modern advertisements.

Clarence Lee from Tennessee

Loved the commercials he saw on TV.

He watched with wide believing eyes

And bought everything they advertised-

Cream to make his skin feel better,

Spray to make his hair look wetter,

Bleach to make his white things whiter,

Stylish jeans to fit much tighter.

Toothpaste for his cavities,

Powder for his doggie’s fleas,

Purple mouthwash for his breath,

Deodorant to stop his sweat.

He bought each cereal they presented,

Bought each game that they invented.

Then one day he looked and saw

“A brand-new Maw,a better Paw!

New, improved in every way-

Hurry, order yours today!”

So, of course our little Clarence

Sent off for two brand-new parents.

The new ones came in the morning mail,

The old ones he sold at a garage sale.

and now they all are doing fine:

his new folks treat his sweet and kind,

his old ones work in an old coal mine.

so if your Maw and Paw are mean

and make you eat your lima beans

and make you wash and make you wait

and never let you stay up late

and cream and scold and preach and pout,

that simply means their wearing out.
